Do you have Sleep Apnea?

If you snore loudly while sleeping, and feel tired throughout the day, you might have obstructive sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea is the cessation of breathing during sleep due to partial or complete obstruction of airway. It is more common than initially thouhght. Approximately 4% of men and 2% of women over age 50 suffer from sleep apnea. Patients with sleep apnea are often overweight and might have a short thick neck. Others may have a short receding lower jaw, or a thick tongue.

Achoo!!—Seasonal Allergies

Many individuals thoroughly welcome the end of winter and relish the opportunity to get outside, to walk, bike, and play sports with the kids. Unfortunately, for the 20% of the population that is affected by allergic rhinitis (allergies), this warmer weather brings more pollen from trees, grass and weeds. Along with mold, dust, and animal dander, these allergens trigger the immune system in people with allergies to overreact – releasing histamine and other “mediators” to produce the symptoms of sneezing, itchiness, runny nose, postnasal drip, nasal congestion, headache, earache, red eyes, fatigue, drowsiness, and malaise.

Meet Dr. Pushpa Vadivel, Hayward Office Pediatrician

Pushpa Vadivel lives both personally and professionally by these simple yet resonating words from Gandhi. Born and raised in a small town in India, Vadivel developed a passion for service at a young age when she began caring for her grandfather who was suffering from lung cancer. When she was 10, her grandfather began a daily free lunch program for the homeless in their local community and it was there that she became exposed to serving those around her.
