Do you want to look like a little, frail, hunched grandma when you are 70? Probably not. So what can you do to prevent that from happening? The image described, along with a decrease in height is generally a result of having osteoporosis.
What is osteoporosis? The word osteoporosis means “porous bones”. It is a condition related to loss of minerals, especially calcium from the bones, making them weaker, more brittle and susceptible to fractures.

Diabetes mellitus is a public health problem of epidemic proportions and its incidence in Asian Indians and other South Asians is on the rise. More than 21 million adults in the United States and 150 million worldwide have diabetes. By 2025 the World Health Organization projects more than 300 million cases worldwide and by 2030, an estimated 79 million Indians will have type 2 diabetes mellitus (also referred to as “diabetes”), 80% of whom will die from heart disease. The risk of developing heart disease is fourfold in individuals with diabetes and is, therefore, a significant health concern in this at-risk population.

It is often said that world travel is one of the best forms of education. A person’s native culture could be compared to the spine of a book, but it is each chapter that makes up the various rich experiences from the cultures in which one has traveled. Growing up, Jaya Karnani, M.D. had the opportunity to experience travel and culture first-hand. She was born in India and moved to Malaysia at the age of two, where she describes growing up in a multi-cultural epicenter. Her classrooms were filled with international students of all religions and racial backgrounds. In addition, her father worked in the airline industry, so travel was a common family pastime.
